Large radius transitions from the lug to the body reduce the concentrated stresses that break the lugs off with lateral loading.  A reinforcing gusset on each lug reduces flexing and strengthens the lugs as well.

Grooves inside the body help secure the fill materials to maximum grip.  A large radius in the body prevents strand breakage and failure where the rope goes into the cavity.
