After (12) years of development, ABL’s ProLok socket system for dragline drag ropes is currently proving itself on draglines to be a reliable alternative to conventional wedge style sockets. Unlike conventional wire rope sockets, the ProLok drag socket does not require the rope to be wrapped around a heavy steel wedge. This reduces the length of rope required for socketing and eliminates the dangerous stored energy developed by looping the rope around a conventional rope wedge. In addition, the ProLok drag sockets typically weigh at least 30% less than conventional drag rope sockets. The reduced weight of the sockets has been proven to extend rope life and reduce the overall suspended weight of bucket rigging.
With ABL’s ProLok drag rope socket system, maintenance personnel will never have to hammer out a steel wedge to remove rope from a socket. The simple rope change process required by ProLok drag sockets significantly reduces the time to change ropes and drastically improves the safety aspects of the rope change process.
